Introducing Radio YYZ.
An online radio start-up designed to cater to the millennial population of the GTA.
A millennial is another name for generation Y, born between 1985 and 1996, a person reaching young adulthood in the early 21st century.
We, the millennial generation are lost, and underserved. Growing up in the midst of a societal shift, we are caught in between the ideals of the past shaped by the generations before us, and ideals of the future, based on the influx of and access to information we enjoy today.
Since the inception of radio, the goal has been to educate, inform and entertain. Toronto radio stations dedicated to the youth of today do not reflect this. Owned by radio conglomerates with no interest in pushing forward cultural agenda, and populated by radio hosts of generations past, the objective of these stations are to do whatever it takes to get ratings up, leading to a slow yet inevitable decline. Millennials have no radio source they can connect to, to listen to, and be heard. This is the aim of YYZ Radio. To bring them together, independent of creed or colour (acceptance - a millennial attribute). Also, it's to unite the metropolitan of Toronto through radio inviting those that use Pearson Airport (YYZ) to listen and participate. We know that Toronto is truly shaped by its surrounding areas.
With Jordan River Radio, we built the best millennial rotation on the planet, which drew 4000 listeners per month from around the world with no spoken content. As of March 1st this rotation can be heard here. After our content launch on May 1st, the station will be available as an app on the App Store, and Google Play (EDIT: App is now available on Google Play). It will also be accessible by major radio hubs such as TuneIn, WinAmp and iTunes Radio.
We are in the process of adding our broadcasters, and live entity to the already flourished millennial rotation backbone. To touch on issues that matter to our demography. From our perspective. Content and news that we're interested in, down to the broadcasters, people we know and recognize, the music, and last but not least, the advertising. Companies and causes that matter to the millennial community and actually help the population. A station built, owned and ran by us. It will feature prominent DJs, broadcasters and content creators in the metropolis who are seasoned yet have been blacklisted by the radio community by those unwilling to open the floodgates to the next generation.
Technology has afforded us the opportunity to change the way radio is broadcasted and consumed, for a fraction of the price of traditional terrestrial radio. YYZ Radio has many options for broadcasters to do so from their home, or anywhere with an internet connection. This opens the door for many to participate in what will be the future of radio.
